The names may sound new: Mangosteen. Goji. Acai. Noni. Spirulina. Seabuckthorn. But the truth is - these newly-deemed "SuperFoods" have been around for centuries. Populations around the world discovered the phenomonal health benefits of these fruits and vegetables, long before modern science could label those benefits with such terms as xanthones, polyphenols, phytonutrients or ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity).
Because they are so densely rich with healthy phytonutrients already-fats, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, polyphenols, polysacchrides, lipoproteins and glycoproteins, to name a few - "SuperFoods" don't require a lot of processing and added "stuff" to fortify them. It's already in there.
